As a key industrial R&amp;D partner, Rovensa Next is contributing with formulations, testing, screening, and field-validation capabilities to help transform underused natural resources into scalable agricultural innovations, with, at least, two fully circular next-generation biofertilizers targeted for delivery by 2029.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bio2project.eu\/\">BIO<sup>2<\/sup><\/a> addresses one of agriculture\u2019s key challenges: how to maintain productivity while reducing dependence on inputs that are increasingly under environmental or regulatory pressure, including conventional sources of nitrogen and phosphorus.<\/p>\n<p>Through this project, Rovensa Next is supporting the transformation of renewable and underused resources such as marine byproducts, recycled nutrients and beneficial microorganisms to develop practical and scalable solutions for crop nutrition, although the project also targets plant and animal health.<\/p>\n<p>Launched in May 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bio2project.eu\/\">BIO<sup>2<\/sup><\/a> is a four-year project coordinated by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnr.it\/\">Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR)<\/a> in Italy, which brings together 20 partners from eight countries, including universities, research institutes, farming organizations and industrial companies. The initiative is co-developing and testing prototype solutions to help promising research move into real-world agricultural applications, in line with the European Union\u2019s ambition to accelerate fair, healthy, and environmentally friendly food systems.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c<em>With BIO\u00b2, we aim to make a lasting impact on both organic and conventional farming. While supporting the <a href=\"https:\/\/commission.europa.eu\/strategy-and-policy\/priorities-2019-2024\/european-green-deal_en\">EU Green Deal\u2019s<\/a> goal of 25% organic farmland by 2030, our ambition goes further \u2014 promoting agroecological principles, healthier soils, and reduced reliance on synthetic inputs,\u201d <\/em>said <strong>Dr. Alessio Adamiano, project coordinator at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnr.it\/\">CNR<\/a><\/strong>. <em>\u201cBIO\u00b2 contributes directly to Sustainable Crop Production Intensification and the global goal of producing more food with less environmental impact. The shift toward sustainable food systems can\u2019t wait \u2014 and BIO\u00b2 is a concrete step forward<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBIO<\/em><em><sup>2<\/sup><\/em><em> is a highly strategic project that relates directly to the European Union\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consilium.europa.eu\/en\/policies\/from-farm-to-fork\/\">Farm to Fork<\/a> objectives. It allows us to explore how circular materials and microbial solutions can be translated into practical applications, supporting more resilient and resource-efficient agriculture and shaping the future of sustainable global agriculture,\u201d<\/em> said <strong>Jos\u00e9 Nolasco, Head of Global R&amp;D Bionutrition at Rovensa Next<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><strong>From EU research to field-ready solutions<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Within <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bio2project.eu\/\">BIO<sup>2<\/sup><\/a>, Rovensa Next is involved in biofertilizer characterization, formulation and upscaling. In addition to the two complete specialty biofertilizers, the company is also supporting the development of at least one biocontrol solution and one animal health product with complete field evaluation. As a practical example of this evaluation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bio2project.eu\/\">BIO<sup>2 <\/sup><\/a>has stablished farmer networks across Germany, Latvia, Italy, Norway and Spain for key crops to discuss and test biofertilizer and biocontrol solutions under real farming conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Internally, Rovensa Next has also begun greenhouse and planification of field trial work, including the screening of prototype candidates provided by the consortium. These trials will evaluate different rates of specialty nitrogen and phosphorus inputs, microbial combinations and soil versus foliar application strategies on crops such as wheat, potato, strawberry and table grapes, generating agronomic and analytical data to support future product development.<\/p>\n<p>The company is also contributing to economic and environmental assessments, project coordination and dissemination activities.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c<em>Agriculture, in its diverse forms, urgently needs effective and sustainable alternatives that work in the field, not only in the laboratory.
