Building a strong Safety culture
We are committed to embedding a proactive safety culture throughout all our global operations. We see safety as a shared responsibility, one that begins with leadership and is brought to life through the everyday actions of every team member.
Since September 2023, the Global Health & Safety Policy has been in place across Rovensa Group, offering clear strategic direction and practical guidelines for identifying and mitigating risks at every site, from laboratories and offices to production plants and agricultural fields.
Culture starts at the top and it spreads daily
Safety becomes a lived value when everyone plays their part:
- Executive leadership sets the strategic direction and ensures the resources are in place for continuous improvement.
- Managers and supervisors bring policy to life through daily actions—risk assessments, hands-on training, and performance tracking.
- Every employee contributes by following safety procedures, reporting Safety Observations (SOs) unsafe conditions, incidents and near misses and proposing practical ideas to improve workplace safety.
This shared responsibility is what transforms safety from a policy into a living value. ‘Safety first Rovensa’ is more than a slogan — it’s a daily commitment that guides our actions and decisions. From our plants to our offices, safety is embedded in our culture and reflected in how we care for people”, underlines Joao Rodrigues, Head of Global Health & Safety at Rovensa.
STAR: Advancing a Zero Harm culture
Our Group-wide safety initiative, STAR (Safe Team at Rovensa), launched in 2020, continues to drive our ambition of achieving a Zero Harm culture, where the health and safety of our people are inseparable from our operational success.
STAR promotes a consistent and robust safety culture by encouraging best practices, knowledge sharing and ongoing engagement across all Rovensa Next sites. Its mission is clear: to protect our people and contribute to healthier, safer communities wherever we operate.
Engaging our teams worldwide: a week dedicated to Safety and Health at Work
In line with Rovensa’s Group unwavering commitment to workplace safety and well-being and on the occasion of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work all facilities activated a wide array of initiatives reflecting our belief that protecting our people starts with engagement, prevention, and empowerment.
Throughout the week, employees from all areas (offices, labs, factories, and fields) joined in initiatives that promoted well-being, prevention and awareness:
- Emergency drills in Arapongas (Brazil), and Donegal (Ireland); health-focused events like mindfulness workshops, healthy breakfasts and fitness challenges in multiple Spanish locations.
- A 21-day step challenge in Spain, using the Steppers app, led by teams in Valencia, who emerged as the top-performing plant, Albacete and Sanchidrián.
- Safety quizzes and awareness sessions in Portugal, at Palmela and Setúbal plants; In Brazil organized the “Empresa Segura x Casa Segura” campaign, part of the national April green movement.
- In North America, as part of the “Going Bananas for Safety” campaign, the team celebrated a special Appreciation Day to recognize everyone’s commitment to a safe workplace.
- In Strand, South Africa, teams united for training sessions and a traditional braai (barbecue) in celebration of safety.
- Among all sites, employees tested their knowledge and had fun playing Play It Safe, our global safety game—congratulations to the top scorers!
As part of Rovensa Group, at Rovensa Next, caring for people is not just a responsibility, it’s the foundation on which we build a safer, healthier and more sustainable future for all.
